SODIUM BICARBONATE Intravenous (Baking soda) 84 mg / ml solution for infusion

Baking soda is an alkaline salt. 

SODIUM BICARBONATE infusion is used for:

-alkalinization of urine, when oral administration is not possible, in the case of treatment of intoxication with various medicines such as: barbiturates (drugs that induce sleep), acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), etc .;

- hydro-electrolytic and acid-base rebalancing in case of severe digestive losses along with other drugs;

- acid-base rebalancing in case of massive destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis), muscle tissue or if the level of uric acid in the blood rises;

- hyperkalemia (increase in the amount of potassium in the blood);

- cardiovascular shock.

Do not use SODIUM BICARBONATE infusion:

- if you are allergic to baking soda

Warnings and precautions:

Before using the infusion Sodium Bicarbonate, ask your doctor if:

- suffer from congestive heart failure;

-you have decompensated liver cirrhosis;

-suffers of severe renal failure;

-you have other clinical conditions associated with edema (swelling) and hydrosaline retention

- you are being treated with corticosteroids, corticotrophin.

It should be used with caution in case of hypoventilation (low respiratory rate) or hyperosmolarity (increased blood pressure). Care must be taken to ensure that a cannula or small tube is correctly positioned in a vein to avoid severe complications.

Baking soda infusion together with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently taken or might take

use any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

In particular, Baking Soda infusion should not be given to you on the same line as infusion with solutions containing calcium, magnesium or phosphates due to the risk of precipitation. Infomed baking soda infusion may interact with other medicines, especially:

● corticosteroids, for example hydrocortisone, prednisone

● male sex hormones (androgens)

● medicines that increase urinary flow (diuretics), especially those that stimulate potassium excretion.
